Upload Questions:

  • What is the file size limit?

Files up to 1.5GB can be uploaded into your account. However, experience has shown that files are downloaded more successfully if they are sized realistically. It may still be preferable to split the largest files into smaller parts.

  • Can I split my file?

Yes you can do this. This feature may make it easier to upload and download extra-large files. Some users experience difficulties uploading and downloading extra-large files so splitting can be very useful.

  • How do I split my files?

We recommend you use a Zip utility program, such as WinZip. The following information applies to WinZip. If you are using a different program, refer to its help files if you are unsure how to proceed. To split a Zip file into smaller pieces:
    1. Open or create the Zip file.
    2. Choose Split from the Actions menu.
    3. Specify the name to be used for the split Zip file. The name must be different from the name of the open Zip file.
    4. Specify the size to be used for the individual parts. You can choose from common sizes using the Part size drop-down list or you can specify your own size. To specify your own size, choose "Other size" in the drop-down list and type the desired size in the Other size field. You can specify the size in bytes, kilobytes (KB), or megabytes (MB); indicate which you're using by clicking the appropriate radio button.
    5. Click OK to create the split Zip file.

  • How do I join split files?

If the file was split with a Zip utility program, open the file with the .zip extension. Please make sure all the parts are in the same location or folder. Don't try to open any of the files with the numbered extensions; you zip utility program won't recognize them as Zip files. Once the split Zip file has been opened, you can work with it much as you would work with a regular Zip file. The split Zip file format is an extension of the Zip 2.0 specification. Therefore, some older Zip utility programs may not be able to open split Zip files. If you experience any difficulties, we recommend using WinZip. If the file was split using a different compression format, such as RAR, please refer to the help files of your RAR utility program if you are unsure how to proceed. We are not able to offer further technical advice.

  • Can I add a password to protect my files?

Yes. sendspace Pro™ administrators have the option of adding a password to protect their files. This can be done when uploading or at a later date through the mysendspace file edit feature. You can add an alphanumerical code, up to 10 characters, to further secure your files to authorized downloaders. Also, if you use an archiving program like WinZip to prepare your files before uploading, you have the option of adding an archive password.

  • Can I upload a folder from my computer?

Normally, uploading through a Web browser limits you to uploading files one at a time. Web browsers do not allow you to select a folder for upload. If you upload using our Multiple Upload page you can select up to 5 files for uploading in sequence. Another way is to create a single archive, such as a zip file, of the contents of your folder before uploading. This process takes only a few seconds, and the compressed archive is often smaller in size than the original files making upload faster.

  • What is Remote Uploading?

If your file is already hosted somewhere on the Internet, we can fetch it for you and add it to your account. All we need is the HTTP or FTP link to the file and it will be collected. To use this service, follow the link on the upload page called 'URL' and enter the URL details. We also support username and password authentication, if needed. A URL format for file locations needing authorization would look like ftp://username:password@ftp.yoursite.com/file/path/name.example for an FTP link and http://username:password@http.site.com/file/path/name.example for an HTTP link.

  • Is my Pro file storage space secure?

Yes. The administration of the account is password-protected. Your files can only be accessed if you provide someone with a download link. We do not have a search facility and never provide file information to others. You can upload encrypted files and store them on our servers in that form. All files receive automatic backup on our server network so they still always available if/when hardware fails.

  • Who is able to delete the file?

The file can only be deleted by the account administrator and sendspace. After you have uploaded a file, except through your DropBox, you will be given a special link to delete the file. If you selected an email confirmation, the delete link will be included in that email. If a DropBox is used to upload files, no links are provided and no email is sent - the file can only be deleted by the administrator. The administrator can edit details and delete files in the 'Mysendspace' area. Recipients of your files are unable to delete or edit them.

  • How long does a file remain available?

Your files will not be deleted for as long as you retain a sendspace Pro™ account and they comply with our terms of service. Unlike some other service providers, we do not limit the number of downloads per file. sendspace Pro™ administrators are also able to set a maximum number of downloads, for example, 10, and set a time limit, for example, 10 days, if they wish. This is administered in MyFiles, in Mysendspace. sendspace Pro™ is made available with as few imposed limits and as many options as possible, making it the ideal, flexible, business solution.

  • Can I set my own download limits?

Yes. You can choose to only allow a certain number of downloads of your files, for example, 10, or set the file to become unavailable after a certain time, for example, 7 days. If both limits are set, its whichever comes first that is applied. Once the limit has been reached, you can choose whether or not the file is deleted, or saved in your folder for sharing again at another time. This is administered in MyFiles, in Mysendspace.

  • Do you backup uploads in case of hardware failure?

Yes we do. Your uploaded files are protected by automatic backup and Network redundancy protocols designed to minimise downtime. We have a 99.9% uptime and our engineers are available 24/7.

  • Why Is My Upload Speed Limit So Slow?

We allow uploads without speed restrictions. In fact, some of our users can upload files at over 400 Kilobytes a second! However, if you are connected with a typical broadband connection you should get around 20 KB per second for send/upload speed. This is because broadband providers set a much lower rate for upload speeds than download speeds. This will depend on your broadband connection and is in no way related to sendspace or our servers. sendspace Pro™ administrators have the option of restricting their upload speed in 'preferences, if they wish to reduce the impact of uploading on their Internet connection.
